Excerpts from the charter
of the Polish ASSOCIATION FOR THE STUDY OF THE LIVER

Chapter II
LEGAL CHARACTER, OBJECTIVES AND
MEANS AND MEASURES OF OPERATION

§7

The Association has legal personality.

§8

The objectives of the Association include:
1. Work on proper research development on epidemiology, etiopathogenesis, clinic, diagnosis, treatment and other aspects of liver disorders.
2.Propagation of scientific achievements and putting them into practice in scientific and social work of physicians and representatives of other professions researching liver disorders. These objectives are realised through:
a. issuing own publications
b. co-operation with other scientific, social and professional societies and institutions.

Chapter III
Members of the ASSOCIATION, their rights and duties

§9

The members of the Association are differentiated into:
a/ ordinary
b/ honorary
c/ supporting.

§10

Anyone of Polish nationality, who has carried out a study and published results on an original liver research and who is currently committed to liver research, and who is authorised to apply for ordinary membership of the Society, may become an ordinary member of the Association.

§11

Any person or institution who is granted the title by the General Assembly of the Association in recognition of his/its merits, may become an Honorary Member of the Association.

§12

The title of Supporting Member is designed for any person or institution who supports liver research.

§13

All members of the Association have the right to present studies, reports, presentations at scientific conferences and to participate in scientific competitions.

§14

All members have the right to participate Election Meetings. Supporting Members do not have the right to vote.

§15

Ordinary and Supporting Members and students must pay membership fee passed by the Main Board. Honorary Members are exempted from paying membership fee.

§16

A candidate for the member of the Polish Association for the Study of the Liver must fill out member�s declaration.

§17

Admission to the Association is voted by majority of members of the Main Board.

§18

The Main Board may remove Ordinary and Supporting Members and students from the list of members:
a/ for own request,
b/ in case of failing to pay membership fee for two years.

§19

A member may be disqualified from the Association in case of being detrimental to the Society or as a punishment set by the appropriate organ. Disqualification is voted by the General Assembly by 2/3 of votes of present members, to a proposal of a specially appointed, by the Main Board, commission.

Chapter IV
Authorities of the ASSOCIATION

§20

The Authorities of the Polish Association for the Study of the Liver
l. General Assembly of Members,
2. Main Board,
3. Revising Committee.
The Authorities of Branch:
l. General Assembly of Branch Members,
2. Branch Board,
3. Revising Committee of the Branch.
The Authorities of Section:
1.General Assembly of Section Members,
2.Section Board.

§21

The General Assemblies are differentiated into ordinary and extraordinary.

§22

Ordinary General Assembly takes place every 3 years.

§28

The General Assembly elects for a 3-year tenure the Chairman, the Chairman Elect, Vice-Chairman, General Secretary and the Treasurer. The members of the Board and three members of the Main Revising Committee are proposed by individual members to the Presidium of the General Assembly. Then the Chairman, the Chairman Elect, Vice-Chairman, General Secretary, Treasurer and three members of the Main Board are elected. The Chairman Elect will act Chairman in the next tenure. The election is secret and by majority of votes. The General Assembly assigns a special Recruitment Committee consisting of three members, not standing for the Association authorities, to count the votes.

Chapter V
The Main Board of the ASSOCIATION

§32

The Main Board consists of:
a/ Chairman of the Main Board,
b/ two Vice-Chairmen of the Main Board:
- Chairman elect, i.e. the Chairman of the main Board in the following tenure and Vice-Chairman of the Main Board,
c/ Treasurer,
d/ General Secretary,
e/ three members of the Main Board

§33

The Chairman of the Main Board in the previous tenure becomes an honorary member of the new Main Board for the next tenure.

§37

The elected Chairman fulfils his duties only during one tenure, and in the following becomes a member of the Main Board. The Chairman Elect takes over the position of Chairman in the following tenure.

Chapter IX
DISPUTE SECTIONS

§ 60

The Main Board may organise dispute sections.

§61

The Main Board appoints an organiser of the Section, who fulfils his duties until the election of the Section Board.

§62

The Section Board consists of :
- Chairman,
- Vice-Chairman,
Secretary,
who are elected by majority of votes by General Meeting of the Section Members.

Chapter X
MEMBERS OF INTERNATIONAL SCIENTIFIC SOCIETIES

§65

1. The Main Board appoints its representatives for International Scientific Societies.
2. Individual groups of representatives for International Scientific Societies, with consent of the Main Board, elect delegates for the Boards of these Societies.
3. Delegates report in writing to the Main Board about activities of theses Societies.
